We're delighted to present a special carnival themed mix from the legendary Gladdy Wax (aka Mr Vinyl Fingers) who has been running his own sound system for over 40 years now as well as the mighty Gladdy Wax sound system which was a key attraction at the Notting Hill Carnival every year. Expect Gladdy to showcase soul, funk, and rockin' r&b 45s alongside the killer ska, rocksteady and reggae for which he is best known.

The award-winning novelist shares stories about why Notting Hill Carnival means so much to her and picks some of her favourite Carnival tunes for our All Day Rave.

Carty-Williams released her short story 'Notting Hill Carnival: A West Side Story' in February, 2020, following the publication of her critically acclaimed debut novel, Queenie, in 2019.

Norman Jay MBE's Good Times Sound System is a Notting Hill Carnival staple. For many years his iconic London bus parked up in Notting Hill and pumped out the best disco, funk, house and reggae. This year, with the Carnival cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic, we thought we'd bring you a little bit of Good Times as part of 6 Music's Carnival inspired All Day Rave. 6 Music's All Day Rave - carnival edition, returns for the Bank Holiday (Sorry Scotland) with Shaun celebrating everything that has a strong, regular repeated pattern of movement or sound.

Shaun hears from Linett Kamala who at the age of 14, became one of the first female DJs at the Notting Hill carnival and is a long time champion of the event. Linett currently serves as one of the trustees of the Carnival, which of course should have been taking place this weekend and she tells Shaun about her history with Carnival, the music that reminds her of the event and how audiences can support the event this year, remotely.

Shaun also has an exclusive new mix of disco and house from the legendary Luvdup and there is an Album of the Day track from Toots and the Maytals' album Got To Be Tough.
