We start off this six part series with Brian Mullen. In this programme Brian speaks to Gráinne Holland about how he first began presenting on BBC Radio Ulster and Foyle and how he now feels about presenting his world music show, Caschlár. He tells her about how he first fell in love with Irish songs, about the songs he has collected from renowned Irish language singers and we hear some of those beautiful songs from him.

This week's guest didn't lift her music talent off the water! Áine Ní Bhrollaigh comes from an extremely musical family in Dungiven on whose strong foundations she is building her career. Áine began singing when she was very young and learnt the harp from her aunt Nodlaig, and she is rarely seen or heard without it these days. She tells Gráinne about the time she spent in Amercia, her love for her homeland and about the new band that in the pipeline for her. She also sings a selection of songs for us.

Dermot Mulholland tells Gráinne Holland about the life he has had playing in bands, how he's getting on with his current band, 'Réalta', and how he feels about starting out as a solo singer. He also talks about his upbringing and the influence his mother and father and his hometown have had on his music. Dermot sings some songs that he has a particular affinity with in this programme.

We hear from Claire Nic Ruairí about how she went from classical music to a sean-nós style of singing. Did her classical training help her when she was starting out learning the seán-nós style? She also talks about her experience of singing with various choirs over the years and how her music has been influenced by her time in Donegal. Claire will be competing in Corn Uí Riada at this year's Oireachtas na Samhna and there is a chance to hear some of her beautiful singing.

Tá dlúthbhaint aici go fóill le Ceanada. I measc na n-amhrán a cheolann sí, tá amhrán in ómos do Dhoire le focail i bhfoirm dáin a ndeirtear gur chum Colmcille iad.

Kate Crossan tells Gráinne Holland about her life as a singer and the influence that Canada had on her music after spending some time there. She was first noticed as a member of the Irish-Canadian band 'Kitty's Kitchen' and she tells us about the type of songs they sang, such as a song in Irish about lumberjacks! She still has a strong bond with Canada. Amongst the songs she sings is a song in honour of Derry, comprising a poem that's reportedly written by Colmcille.

Kathryn Mullan is from Carntogher and her homeplace has had a big impact on her. She tells Gráinne about the way the community there work together to ensure that it remains strong. She tells Gráinne about her plans for the future, having just finished University. Amongst the songs she sings is one that she has composed in honour of her hometown. Produced by Treasa Bhreathnach.
