For 19 years from 1935, the Lux Radio Theater, sponsored by a well-known soap manufacturer, brought Hollywood blockbuster movies to the airwaves, using the original cast if possible and, if not. often substituting even more illustrious stars. Radio productions such as The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon were broadcast live with a full orchestra and were shorter and pacier than the original movies.
