Bbc Proms In The Park20170909Live from Hyde Park in London presented by Ken Bruce, Tony Blackburn and Michael Ball - a gala celebration of the finale of the BBC Proms season with special guests Sir Bryn Terfel, Elaine Paige, Gilbert O'Sullivan and headliner Sir Ray Davies.

It's 21 years since Hyde Park opened its gates to the BBC Proms audience. The Royal Albert Hall can only hold 5,000 so the BBC decided to relay the famous Last Night of the Proms on giant video screens in London's Hyde Park to enable a larger audience to enjoy the Last Night experience. Initially an experiment, the first show was a huge success and Proms in the Park is now established as one of the musical highlights of the London season.

Today Proms in the Park events take place all round the UK with venues in Swansea, Glasgow and Enniskillen - that's more that 60,000 people joining together for the big singalong finale.

This year's Hyde Park event broadcasts live from 5pm with Ken Bruce setting the scene and Tony Blackburn introducing live performances from Texas, Five Guys Named Moe; pianist Peter Bence and Steps from the Hyde Park stage. Then at 7.30pm Michael Ball will be on stage to present the main gala concert - as ever the BBC Concert Orchestra will be conducted by Richard Balcombe. Our star guests this year span the worlds of opera, musicals and pop. They include our finest bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, West End's leading lady Elaine Paige and the man that dominated the charts in the 1970s - Gilbert O'Sullivan.

The Proms in the Park headliner this year is one of our foremost singer-songwriters. As front man of the legendary 60s band The Kinks his recording career spanned 4 decades before he went on to a successful solo career. His songs have been covered by the likes of The Jam; The Pretenders; The Stranglers, Kirsty McColl and Kate Rusby. Last year he was knighted for services to the arts and British music - he is Sir Ray Davies.

In a greatest hits set Sir Ray will perform with the full BBC Concert Orchestra and Crouch End Festival Chorus - songs will include You Really Got Me; Sunny Afternoon, Dedicated Follower of Fashion and Waterloo Sunset - a song written 50 years ago this year.

Finally, all the parks and hall join forces and wave their flags for the traditional ending to the Proms season - Pomp and Circumstance March No 1, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.
