The Boris Pasternak

Dr Zhivago20000305

Tom de Waal - in Moscow and at Boris Pasternak's dacha outside the city - talks to those who knew the author of `Dr ZHIVago' in the years after Stalin's death on 5 March 1947.

Pasternak spent much of the Stalin era in isolation, unpublished, working on translations of Shakespeare and Goethe.

Having survived the worst of the purges, the last phase of his life became one of turbulence, fame, creativity and persecution.

In dramatised readings the role of Boris Pasternak is played by Ronald Pickup.

Cast also includes Neville Jason, Colin Pinney and David Timson
