They perform Haydn's bright Sunrise quartet, followed by Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor Opus 34, a piece that went through many incarnations before the 31 year old Brahms considered it finished. Today clarinettist Mark Simpson and pianist Richard Uttley perform Brahms sonata in F minor Op 120, one of a pair of sonatas he wrote for the instrument. Alongside this sit works by Brahms' predecessor Weber, and a recent composition by Mark Simpson, who performs today. Recorded at Aberdeen Citadel, the concert begins with Beethoven's Trio No 11, with the cello part transcribed by Alec Frank-Gemmill for horn.
