RUSSELL DAVIES chairs the general knowledge contest of champions, held every three years, featuring the Radio 4 'Brain of Britain' champions for 2012, 2013 and 2014. This year the highest-scoring runner-up in any of the last three Finals also joins them.

A close contest is guaranteed, between four of Britain's most competitive quiz brains: Mark Grant, Barry Simmons, David Stainer and Ray Ward.

The special contest launches the brand new season of 'Brain of Britain' which begins in earnest next week.

A general knowledge contest between the most recent Brain of Britain champions.

To launch the new season of 'Brain of Britain', the champions of the three previous series, along with the highest-scoring runner-up in a final, compete for the coveted title 'Brain of Brains 2018'. RUSSELL DAVIES tests their general knowledge with half an hour of particularly tricky questions, and has a special trophy for the champion of champions to add to their cabinet of accolades.

The winner will also go forward to the 'Top Brain' contest held next week, in which the three most recent winners of 'Brain of Brains' go head to head in the ultimate general knowledge quiz.

Before the 2021 Brain of Britain series gets under way, Russell Davies welcomes back four top-scoring contestants from recent years for an elite quiz contest. The Brain of Britain champions from 2019 and 2020 are joined by the runners-up from those Finals, to determine who takes home the prestigious Brain of Brains trophy.

The quiz comes from the Radio Theatre in London and was recorded with restrictions on indoor gatherings still in place.

Taking part are:

Graham Barker, a retired dental surgeon from the Wirral (the reigning Brain of Britain champion)

Hugh Brady, a scientist from North London

Frankie Fanko, a freelance translator from Leicestershire

David Stainer, a tax advisor from Hertford.

Russell Davies welcomes a line-up of formidable quizzers to London's Radio Theatre for a special curtain-raiser to the 2024 Brain of Britain series.
