Joining Bruce this week will be progressive rock band Dream Theater.

After 22 years on the metal scene, they have become one of the most commercially successful progressive bands since the height of prog rock in the mid-70s. This summer sees the release of their ninth studio album, Systemic Chaos, as well as a world tour and appearances at many European festivals, but they still manage to find the time to come in and have a chat with Bruce.

Plus there's a classic archive session from Faith No More, and all the usual features, including All Men Play on Ten.

Having formed in 1996, the band's unique brand of goth-inspired symphonic metal earned them the title of the Netherlands' best-selling international act.

Having finally landed a deal with Roadrunner, the band join Bruce to chat about their first international major-label album due to be released this spring.

This week Bruce's guests will be Grammy award-winning Californian rockers the Deftones.

One of the most innovative rock bands of recent years, the Deftones have been around longer than people realise. Having started out in 1988 with a more heavy-metal based sound, the band earned a reputation for their willingness to experiment with more ethereal music and poetic lyrics.

March 2007 will see the band playing several dates in the UK, so the guys drop in to chat to Bruce about all things Def.

Plus, the archive session comes from Monster Magnet and Bruce plays tracks from Supersuckers, Dio, Rollins Band and Incubus.

On the show this week will be American heavy metal group Mastodon. They'll have a go at being Bruce, taking over the studio for a while to do some presenting, and selecting some of their favourite music to play.

Formed in 1999, Mastodon are regarded by many as representing the new face of metal. They are probably most famed for their track Blood and Thunder, which has appeared on the soundtracks to numerous racing games, and Colony of Birchmen, which was nominated for a Grammy earlier this year.

Joining Bruce this week will be Chicago five-piece The Academy Is?

Since forming in 2002 this indie-emo group have paved their way with lightning speed. They were championed by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, and recently made a cameo appearance in one of FOB's videos as vampires. Currently touring around the UK, Europe and US, the guys pop into the studio to tell Bruce all about it, and about their new album Santi, which is released in April.

Joining Bruce this week will be English five-piece Porcupine Tree.

The band was born in 1987 as a psychedelic, experimental and progressive music outlet for the home-studio explorations of lead vocalist and producer Steven Wilson. Since then, Porcupine Tree have built up a powerful reputation throughout Europe and achieved commercial sales success.

Joining Bruce this week will be Megadeth founder, frontman and songwriter Dave Mustaine.

Together with Mustaine's former group Metallica, Megadeth are often cited as one of the 'Big Four' thrash metal bands alongside Anthrax and Slayer. As one of the most commercially successful metal acts of all time they've sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

This week Bruce is joined by LostAlone.

The unsigned Derby trio are currently attracting a large amount of interest and have achieved remarkable success for such a young band.

Formed in 2005, they have a style that combines fast, heavy riffs with slower, melodic sections and strong vocal harmonies to create a sound that is not easily pigeonholed but sits within the rock/emo scene.

They've recently toured with My Chemical Romance and Enter Shikari, and are also due to perform at Give It A Name at the end of April, together with HIM, Jimmy Eat World and Juliette & The Licks. As they prepare to perform at festivals including Download, Reading and Leeds and T In The Park, they join Bruce to let him in on all the secrets to their success.

This week Bruce is joined by Perry Farrell.

New York-born Perry was the charismatic front man of Jane's Addiction, regarded as one of the first bands of the burgeoning alternative rock movement to gain commercial success in the US. With early musical influences including David Bowie and Lou Reed, he made his name in the mid-80s performing in small LA rock clubs.

Following the break-up of Jane's Addiction he has gone on to form a number of other musical projects, including the Satellite Party, who played with the Doors for their 40th-anniversary concert in 2005.

This week Bruce broadcasts live from Donington's Download Festival. His band Iron Maiden are headlining on Sunday, and he presents his usual Saturday-night show from backstage at this, the UK's biggest alternative music festival.

As well as the latest festival news, we'll hear tracks from many of the major performing artists, including Linkin Park, Megadeth and My Chemical Romance, plus interviews with some of the bands.

Bruce will also delve back into the BBC archives for classic Download performances from years gone by.

Originally the lead singer of Wolfsbane, Birmingham born Bayley replaced Bruce as Iron Maiden frontman in 1994.

During his five years with the band, two albums were released and he joins us to discuss how hard it was to fill Bruce's shoes, and what it was like when Bruce returned to resume his former position in 1999.

This eighties-inspired party-rock outfit is renowned for reinvention, and alongside adopting glam-rock overtones, spandex, retro electronic effects and partying as the cornerstones of their new image, the band overhauled their lineup to the extent that, of its four remaining original members, only drummer Frank 'The Bird' has played the same instrument since the group was founded in 2003.
