A day of concerts from around Europe to celebrate Christmas.

01Part 120161218Andrew McGregor guides us through our annual day of Christmas music from around Europe. Part 1 begins live in Finland. The YLE Youth Choir of 2016, Vox Aurea Youth Choir, perform traditional and contemporary Finnish Christmas music in Kallio Church, Helsinki. Then to a concert of European Christmas organ music performed by Cathedral Cantor Albrecht Koch on the great Silbermann organ of Freiburg Cathedral in Saxony.

A day of concerts from around Europe to celebrate Christmas.

02Nuremberg, Sofia, Copenhagen And Frankfurt20171217Ian Skelly continues Radio 3's annual journey around Europe for a sequence of live and specially recorded concerts. Part 2 includes a Bach and Vivaldi programme from Ensemble 1700, recorded at the German National Museum in Nuremberg. Then at 5pm we go to Bulgaria for a performance of Dimitar Nenov's Christmas Oratorio. The Danish contribution to the day is part of Bach's Christmas Oratorio followed by Scandinavian Christmas songs, and then to Frankfurt for Bach and Handel performed by Le Concert d'Astr退e Chorus and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra.

02Part 220161218Andrew McGregor continues Radio 3's annual Christmas Around Europe. Part two begins live in Tallinn for a concert featuring works by contemporary Estonian composers Toivo Tulev and T倀nu K倀rvits. Then to Utrecht for a concert of Bach cantatas performed by the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Chorus, directed by Ton Koopman. The final concert in this section comes live from Pardubice Castle in the Czech Republic, where the 'Baroque Forever Young' ensemble of top young professional musicians perform Italian Baroque concertos.
