To be an outstanding guitarist is not necessarily to be a solo virtuoso player.

PETE TOWNSHEND spent a large part of his early career trying to compensate for what he considered lack of technical expertise with dramatic on stage gestures. It was only when he began to explore synthesiser and keyboards that his most exquisite guitar-work began to emerge.

Pete Townshend has spent a lot of time destroying guitars - which is strange for a man who loves them so much! Even after this programme he will remain something of an enigma.
