An exploration of C S LEWIS's early years and family influence in a programme to mark the centenary of his birth.
DENYS HAWTHORNE examines Lewis's relationships with his parents, his brother Warnie - who remained close to him all his life - and with the brilliantly eccentric Mr Kirkpatrick, his private tutor.
The programme also considers the historical background against which Lewis grew up in Belfast - an uncertain time of growing support for Irish independence coupled with an increasing unionist opposition.
