The Jacksons At Hyde Park

The Jacksons in Hyde Park - another chance to hear the legendary Jacksons in concert at this year's BBC Proms in the Park with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

It all started 50 years ago at 2300 Jackson Street, Gary, Indiana. Brothers - Jackie, Tito and Jermaine - encouraged by their father Joe got together as a band and called themselves the Jacksons. Youngest brother Randy was too young to join but 7 year old Marlon was given a tamborine and 6 year old Michael was just about tall enough to play the congas. By the time Berry Gordy signed them to the Tamla Motown label in 1968 they were - The Jackson Five.

A string of hits followed on both sides of the Atlantic - ABC, I Want You Back, I'll Be There, Show the Way to Go, Blame it on the Boogie, Shake Your Body and Can You Feel It. Both Jermaine and Michael left to pursue solo careers. Their family life was played out in front of the cameras and very often they hit the tabloid headlines - none more so than with the sudden death of Michael in 2009. Tonight the founding brothers - Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon perform a greatest hit set with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Richard Balcombe - which formed their headline set at this year's BBC Proms in the Park.
