American names as J. Walter Thomson, Manpower, the Yale Lock Company, and Smith and Wesson. Unfavourable comparisons have often been made between British and American management, so how do the Americans feel about working for their new British owners?

John Roberts visited some ot the firms involved to hear at first hand from local managers, shop-floor workers and also from British expatriates, who have had to adapt to a new way of life in a fiercely competitive environment.
