A protege of the great Anna Akhmatova, the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky was sent to a labour camp in northern Russia and later into exile abroad where he began writing fluently in English.
In 1987 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
This programme explores how Brodsky's work is informed by the theme of exile - not only from a country but also from a language.
With Susan Sontag, Anthony Hecht, Paul Muldoon, David Remnick, Czeslaw Milosz and Russian writers Lev Loseff, Vladimir Ufland and Yakov Gordin.
