Nicholas Parsons hosts the long running panel game in which panellists attempt to talk on a subject without hesitation, repetition or deviation. This week the guests are Marcus Brigstocke, Paul Merton, Sheila Hancock and Sue Perkins. Subjects include 'The Aztecs', 'My Garden Shed' and most unusually... 'Anything and Everything'. What will the panellists do when given such free rein with the subject matter?

Produced by Tilusha Ghelani.

How hard can it be to talk for 60 seconds with no hesitation, repetition and deviation?

Paul Merton chats to Nicholas Parsons about his 47-year, 900-show stint.

After clocking up an amazing 900 editions of the award-winning panel game show Just A Minute over 47 years, Paul Merton interviews series chairman Nicholas Parsons - the only person to have appeared in every single edition.

Jimmy Edwards was originally destined for the role of Just A Minute chairman, with Parsons as a panellist. But when show producer, David Hatch, realised that he wouldn't be able to prise Edwards into a studio on a Sunday, Parsons stepped up to the plate to challenge panellists to speak for one minute without hesitation, deviation or repetition, on any subject that comes up on the cards.

Since 1967, Just A Minute has featured some of the UK's finest raconteurs, including Clement Freud, Peter Jones, Derek Nimmo, Kenneth Williams and Sheila Hancock.

Featuring archive clips, this JAM special was recorded before an audience at the BBC's Potterow venue during The Edinburgh Festival 2014.

Just A Minute Does Panto!2016122520170102 (R4)

Nicholas Parsons hosts this panto special with a whole bunch of Just a Minute regulars.

2017 marks Just A Minute's 50th year, and what better way to kick off the celebrations by combining the longest-running panel show with another great British institution - the pantomime!

In Just A Minute Does Panto! Nicholas Parsons is joined by Just A Minute regulars, Paul Merton Sheila Hancock and Gyles Brandreth, as they journey through Panto-land in search of the missing Just A Minute Golden Whistle! Their companions on their quest include, Tom Allen, Pippa Evans, Tony Hawks, Rufus Hound and Julian Clary.

The show flits between the scripted pantomime sections when the team are on their quest and the usual off-the-cuff game of Just A Minute.

There'll be adventure! Genies! Panto dames! Goodies! Baddies! Audience Participation! But above all, at the heart of it, a cracking game of the nation's favourite comedy show - Just A Minute!

Nicholas Parsons celebrates the wit and wonder of the game show, with classic performances

'Nicholas Parsons - he's an institution'. That's what Just a Minute listeners think. And so too is the classic comedy panel game that he's chaired since its first broadcast on 22nd December 1967, on the new BBC Radio 4.

Nicholas Parsons celebrates six decades and counting of dodging deviation, hurdling hesitation and repelling repetition, with performances from some of shows greatest players, including Clement Freud, Derek Nimmo, Peter Jones, Kenneth Williams, Paul Merton, Linda Smith, Stephen Fry, Tony Hawks, Julian Clary and Graham Norton.

Nicholas talks about how he rather accidently became the chairman. He remembers his friend and creator of the game, the late Ian Messiter. And wonders how he survived the challenges of all those unruly panellists. And Paul Merton recalls his joy and worry when he appeared on the show for the first time. He went from being its greatest fan to being behind the microphone.

Chairman Nicholas Parsons endeavours to find out who has the greatest gift of the gab.

Panellists Paul Merton, Sue Perkins, Julian Clary and Charles Collingwood have to speak on a variety of subjects given to them by Nicholas. They must speak for 60 seconds on that subject without hesitation, repetition or deviation - a task much more difficult than it sounds.

This week Sue Perkins reveals what she's got in her attic, Paul Merton talks about his Olympic Dreams, Julian Clary explains why he likes singing in the shower and Charles Collingwood lets us in on his fear of spiders and rats when he's asked to talk on the subject of Sydney.

The game Just A Minute was devised by the late Ian Messiter atop a London bus on his way to work as a BBC Radio producer more than 45 years ago. It was inspired by his memory of a teacher making him and his classmates speak on a subject for 60 seconds as a punishment for bad behaviour.

Producer: Claire Jones.

CELEBRATING 45 YEARS OF HISTORY

Broadcaster Nicholas Parsons regularly welcomes 'our many listeners around the world.' To mark the flagship show's 45 year anniversary, Nicholas and his team have decided to let some of the listeners welcome them.

Along with regular Just a Minute panellists Paul Merton and Marcus Brigstocke, the show's host Nicholas Parsons travelled to India to celebrate and highlight Just a Minute's unique and continuing popularity across the globe.

Just a Minute's two special anniversary Indian shows were recorded in front of a lively, excited and sometimes unusually vocal audience of Mumbai urbanites. Topics up for discussion on the show include 'A Cultural Exchange', 'The Voice of New India' and a funny, quick-witted exchange on the unavoidable topic of the British Empire.

Just a Minute regulars Paul Merton and Marcus Brigstocke are joined by top Indian comedy talents, Cyrus Broacha and Anuvab Pal. Cyrus Broacha is a prime-time TV host as well as actor, writer and comedian. He is best known for his show 'Bakra' on MTV and 'The Week that Wasn't' on CNN-IBN. Anuvab Pal is a leading star in India's new wave of stand up Comedy, performing regularly in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Multi-talented, he performs stand-up in addition to his other careers as an internationally renowned playwright, screenwriter, and journalist for Reuters.

COMING UP... JUST A MINUTE'S INDIAN ADVENTURE (02nd April, R4, 11.30AM).

Just a Minute grew to prominence in India, when it became available to Indian audiences via the BBC World Service. This exposure gave birth to a number of 'Indianised' versions of the game, which continue to be played amongst smart, young, Indian college graduates today. Dubbed 'JAM' sessions, they are a testament to the show's transnational appeal.

As part of the Radio 4 Just a Minute anniversary celebration, BBC Radio 4 will also broadcast a special documentary on these JAM sessions; modern Indianised and radically different take up of the Just a Minute British audiences know and love. The documentary follows a group of lively young Indian college students as they prepare for a competitive JAM tournament against their peers at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore.
