A repeat of a 2017 interview celebrating 50 Years of Just a Minute.

Paul Merton talks to Nicholas Parsons about his life, and his 50 years of hosting Radio 4's beloved panel show, with guest appearances from some of the many regulars who have appeared over the years.

In a career which started in 1945, Nicholas Parsons has worked with an extraordinary range of people - from the golden age of British cinema in the 50s and 60s, to the seedy glamour of the Windmill Theatre where he rubbed shoulders with the cream of stand-up talent including Bruce Forsyth and Tommy Cooper. He formed a famous double act with the legendary comic Arthur Haynes, and worked with him on both sides of the Atlantic - all before Just a Minute was even thought of. In later years he worked with Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson, guest starred in Doctor Who, and will shortly be heard as the voice of God in a TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's Good Omens.

Not bad for a lad who started his career as an engineering apprentice on the Glasgow Docks...

A tribute to the late broadcasting legend Nicholas Parsons, CBE.

2017 marked Just A Minute's 50th year, and what better way to kick off the celebrations by combining the longest-running panel show with another great British institution - the pantomime!

In Just A Minute Does Panto! Nicholas Parsons is joined by Just A Minute regulars, Paul Merton Sheila Hancock and Gyles Brandreth, as they journey through Panto-land in search of the missing Just A Minute Golden Whistle! Their companions on their quest include, Tom Allen, Pippa Evans, Tony Hawks, Rufus Hound and Julian Clary.

The show flits between the scripted pantomime sections when the team are on their quest and the usual off-the-cuff game of Just A Minute.

There'll be adventure! Genies! Panto dames! Goodies! Baddies! Audience Participation! But above all, at the heart of it, a cracking game of the nation's favourite comedy show - Just A Minute!

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in December 2016.

Edinburgh Masterclass2014092620140927 (BBC7)After clocking up an amazing 900 editions of the award-winning panel game show Just A Minute over 47 years, Paul Merton interviews series chairman Nicholas Parsons - the only person to have appeared in every single edition.

Jimmy Edwards was originally destined for the role of Just A Minute chairman, with Parsons as a panellist. But when show producer, David Hatch, realised that he wouldn't be able to prise Edwards into a studio on a Sunday, Parsons stepped up to the plate to challenge panellists to speak for one minute without hesitation, deviation or repetition, on any subject that comes up on the cards.

Since 1967, Just A Minute has featured some of the UK's finest raconteurs, including Clement Freud, Peter Jones, Derek Nimmo, Kenneth Williams and Sheila Hancock.

Featuring archive clips, this JAM special was recorded before an audience at the BBC's Potterow venue during The Edinburgh Festival 2014.

Paul Merton chats to Nicholas Parsons about his 47-year, 900-show stint.

Without Hesitation2012031720140524 (BBC7)Nicholas Parsons - he's an institution'. That's what Just a Minute listeners think. And so too is the classic comedy panel game that he's chaired since its first broadcast on 22nd December 1967, on the new BBC Radio 4.

Nicholas Parsons celebrates six decades and counting of dodging deviation, hurdling hesitation and repelling repetition, with performances from some of shows greatest players, including Clement Freud, Derek Nimmo, Peter Jones, Kenneth Williams, Paul Merton, Linda Smith, Stephen Fry, Tony Hawks, Julian Clary and Graham Norton.

Nicholas talks about how he rather accidently became the chairman. He remembers his friend and creator of the game, the late Ian Messiter. And wonders how he survived the challenges of all those unruly panellists. And Paul Merton recalls his joy and worry when he appeared on the show for the first time. He went from being its greatest fan to being behind the microphone.

Nicholas Parsons celebrates the wit and wonder of the game show, with classic performances

Chairman Nicholas Parsons endeavours to find out who has the greatest gift of the gab.

Panellists Paul Merton, Sue Perkins, Julian Clary and Charles Collingwood have to speak on a variety of subjects given to them by Nicholas. They must speak for 60 seconds on that subject without hesitation, repetition or deviation - a task much more difficult than it sounds.

This week Sue Perkins reveals what she's got in her attic, Paul Merton talks about his Olympic Dreams, Julian Clary explains why he likes singing in the shower and Charles Collingwood lets us in on his fear of spiders and rats when he's asked to talk on the subject of Sydney.

The game Just A Minute was devised by the late Ian Messiter atop a London bus on his way to work as a BBC Radio producer more than 45 years ago. It was inspired by his memory of a teacher making him and his classmates speak on a subject for 60 seconds as a punishment for bad behaviour.
