Play of the Week presents The Lair of the White Worm by Bram Stoker, a gothic tale of horror from the author of Dracula.

The play launches Play of the Week's three week Supernatural Season made up of three dramas guaranteed to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

Next week you can hear the supernatural spine tingler Mrs Morrison's Ghost and the following week we present the classic ghost story, Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward.

The Lair of the White Worm is set in 1870 in the the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England.

While on a visit to his elderly uncle in the tiny village of Penda's Dale, Adam Salton, already shocked by the oppressive melancholic atmosphere in the village, quickly realises that the disappearance of several local men is not accidental.

His investigations lead him to the discovery of a terrifying and ancient secret: a malevolent force is at work in Penda's Dale.

Starring Jimi Mistry (East is East, The Guru), with a specially commissioned soundtrack from the San Fransisico-based sound sculptors Matmos, this play was adapted by Sony Gold Award-winner Brian Wright.
