Cathy (JANICE CONNOLLY, aka Mrs BARBARA NICE start of Britain's Got Talent) and Frank (MICK FERRY, Searching for Eric) are very keen ? in fact this is their third year in the beginners? class. Yara (Lisa Zahra) has recently arrived from Syria and is determined to learn the language of her new home; Jess (Kath Hughes, Gein's Family Giftshop) needs to polish up her skills for work and Liverpudlian Ken (LES DENNIS) seems convinced this is the right place to find his (next) new wife.

In this pilot episode a little role-play to practice vocabulary seemed like a good idea at the time. Learning Welsh has never been such fun.

The theme for this week's lesson is 'celebration' but it could just as easily have been 'surprise' or 'reunion'. Any of these words is enough to reason for Ken to bring out his famous 'three meats' cake and for Yara to get her organising headset on.
