Multicoloured Maestro

After more than a decade in two of the most important musical jobs in Britain - chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and musical director at Glyndebourne - Sir Andrew Davis has started a new life in Chicago.

A familiar personality from the Last Night of the Proms, Andrew Davis retraces his musical journey, which began even before his days at King's College, Cambridge, and recalls some 20th-century musical peaks including Birtwistle's `Mask of Orpheus' and Elgar's final symphony.
