Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande
Simon Rattle brings his interpretation of Debussy's enigmatic score to the Royal Opera House, in a production first shown at the 2006 Salzburg Festival and featuring a strong cast led by Simon Keenlyside, together with Gerald Finley and Angelika Kirchschlager.
The mysterious Mélisande is discovered wandering in a forest by the prince Golaud, who marries her and takes her back with him to his grandfather's foreboding castle.
Mélisande meets Golaud's half-brother Pelléas, and a tragedy unfolds as they are irresistably drawn towards each other.
