Thu, 8 January 2009 - Part 220090108From the Barbican, London.

The concert concludes with a work by Mahler, who grew up in a town now located in the Czech Republic, and was strongly influenced by the piquant flavour of local folk music as a youth, as is amply demonstrated in his Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. This is followed by that most romantic and best-loved of all of Dvorak's symphonies, written in memory of the Czech land he had left behind.
