The American composer JOHN ADAMS, who was 50 last year, talks about the development of his music from early minimalist roots to a style which is distinctive in its openness to every variety of music - American and European, old and new, high art and pop.

With contributions from many of his collaborators and friends, including conductors Edo de Waart, Michael Tilson Thomas and SIMON RATTLE, director PETER SELLARS, poets Alice Goodman and June Jordan, violinist GIDON KREMER, and orchestral players from the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
