A Prom exploring the music of the radical, controversial and influential German composer Stockhausen, who would have celebrated his 80th birthday in 2008. The programme features two classic pieces alongside works from his recent 'Klang' (Sound) sequence, on which he was working at the time of his death in December 2007 and of which he completed 21 of the projected 24 hours. Plus a performance of Gruppen (Groups) for three spatially separated ensembles.

02Prom 20 - Part 220080802From the Royal Albert Hall, London, Sarah Walker introduces the conclusion of this Prom exploring the work of the German composer Stockhausen, who would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year.

The programme includes Gruppen (Groups) for three spatially separated ensembles and Kontakte for piano and percussion - referring to contact between instrumental and electronic sounds, which was written in the late 1950s.
