Michael Ball is your event host for highlights of this year’s Proms in the Park in London's Hyde Park, with superstar Barry Manilow as headliner, plus artists including American singer-songwriter and founding member of The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde, English-Italian singer-songwriter Jack Savoretti, iconic East London-born RnB soul singer Gabrielle and star operatic soprano Aida Garifullina.
This year’s line-up also featured 90s British pop giants Lighthouse Family, as well as the seventy voices of Rock Choir, who returned for the second year running. The sixty piece BBC Concert Orchestra under the baton of conductor Richard Balcombe played to the highest standard, as always.
Two of the most popular musicals of all time featured in the show: Les Miserables and Hamilton. Stars of the current staged concert of Les Miserables, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Shan Ako performed a special medley of ‘On My Own’ and ‘I Dreamed a Dream’. In a rare on stage appearance they were joined by one of the creators of the record breaking musical Claude Michael Schonberg, who accompanied Michael Ball in ‘Stars’. Jon Robyns, who played King George in the West End production of Hamilton, performed ‘You’ll Be Back’ from the multi award winning show; musical theatre Supergroup The Cardinals, featuring Carrie Hope Fletcher, Ramin Karimloo, Ben Forster and Celinde Schoenmaker completed the section with a special arrangement of Lady Gaga’s, ‘Shallow’.
All of this, plus the biggest star of all, headlining the event - Barry Manilow. The legend behind 85 million album sales worldwide and multiple Grammy, Tony and Emmy award trophies performed many classics including Bermuda Triangle, Copacabana, I Write The Songs, Mandy, Weekend In New England, I Made It Through The Rain and Could It Be Magic.
