They took cricket, rugby union and football around the Empire, using it to bond and to control the nations they were conquering and we discover how women were finally allowed to discard their corsets for sport, as long as they played like ladies and how the Corinthian ideal was born.

They took cricket, rugby union and football around the Empire, using it to bond and to control the nations they were conquering and we discover how women were finally allowed to discard their corsets for sport, as long as they played like ladies and how the Corinthian ideal was born.

She looks at the invention of the weekend and the emergence of the middle class which led to an explosion in the genteel sports of tennis and golf.
