03 | Tracks of My Years with Tony Blackburn | 20240324 | 20240727 (R2) | Throughout this week’s omnibus edition of Tracks of My Years, we’ll embark on Tony Blackburn's 10-song voyage, taking us from the high-seas as a young DJ on the offshore pirate radio stations Radio Caroline and Radio London to launching Radio 1 back in 1967. Tony has gone on to spend the last 7 decades in Radio and TV, demonstrating his love of music, presenting Top of the Pops, the Top 40 charts and many soul shows. He currently presents Sounds of the 60s on Saturday Mornings and his Golden Hour on Sunday nights on Radio 2.
Also, across his varied career, Tony has released albums as a singer, won the first series of “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here”, and, in this year’s New Year Honours, was awarded an OBE for his services to broadcasting and charity.
As part of Radio 2's celebration of Tony's 60 years in broadcasting, Tony will be appearing alongside fellow DJ Johnnie Walker for a special “Clash of The Pirates” show - listen on BBC Sounds. Across 2 hours, Tony and Johnnie will battle to become 'Captain of The Pirates', going head-to-head selecting the ultimate playlist consisting of some of their favourite ever tracks.

Strategic song selections, quick thinking, timely responses and playful respect are essential ingredients. They even try to out-do each other whilst doing a mock Top Ten chart rundown!
In the blue corner is the juggernaut, Johnnie Walker (his favourite colour) and in the red corner, it's the towering Tony Blackburn. These two heavyweights pull no punches, as they musically battle to become ‘Captain of The Pirates’.
Having both operated outside of the boundaries of traditional broadcasting, both Tony and Johnnie used their freedom of expression to make real names for themselves as the original pirate radio disc jockeys.
Who will be drawing deepest, using their ninja knowledge to rock the boat and turn the beat around? Who will be the champion? One thing’s for sure, the music is at its absolute best. There's escape, nostalgia, companionship and of course much laughter, in these unique and joyous 2 hours.
