The Unexpected Empire

Denmark is seldom thought of as a colonial power, yet the country which has held links with Norway, the Faroes and Greenland demonstrates an impressive cultural pull, drawing artists from a wide variety of backgrounds.

BRIAN MORTON reports from the capital, Copenhagen, on a burgeoning music scene.

With contributions from composers Per Norgard, Pelle Gudmunsen-Holmgreen, Bo Holten and Sunlief Rasmussen, and jazz musicians Palle Mikkelborg, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen and Pierre Dorge.
