Writing music for cartoons used to be known disparagingly as `musical Mickey-Mousing'.

Carl Stalling changed all that, and for more than twenty years wrote the music for almost all Warner Bros `Merrie Melodies' cartoons.

His collaborators included Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny, and his music shared their wit, invention and energy.
