The Wodehouse Notebooks

At the age of 19, P G WODEHOUSE was working in a bank, and living in digs in Chelsea. In his spare time he was jotting down ideas, stories, jokes, and lyrics in three lined notebooks, which are now preserved in the Wodehouse Archive, as evidence of a young writer's promise. JOHN BIRD browses through the notebooks, to pull out some choice nuggets of unpublished PGW jottings, voiced by Tim McInnerny. And three Wodehouse aficionados provide explanatory foot-notes, connecting these notes to themes in the writer's life and fiction: Robert McCrum, who's writing a new PGW biography, Norman Murphy (author of In Search Of Blandings) and Sir Edward Cazalet, PGW's step-grandson.
